Autotransformers
An autotransformer is a special type of transformer in which the primary and secondary windings are electrically connected. As a result, the device operates without galvanic isolation between circuits. This solution is ideal for applications requiring voltage transformation with high efficiency, including interconnection of networks with different voltage levels and motor starting systems. The applied design significantly reduces the transformer’s internal power, which directly translates into lower weight, smaller dimensions and a more attractive price compared to a conventional transformer of the same rating.
